Tháinig mé ar an dán seo arís le déanaí agus sílim go n-oireann sé do lucht na hÉireann faoi láthair.
Ceart Urraime
le hEithne Strong
A phráta a scamhaim,
cuirtear i bhfeidhm orm
tarraingt uait, amh,
fiú i ngan fhios nach mór,
gan í bheith maol ná garbh
mar a cheapfaí maidir le rud
eascartha ón ísealscraith;
ar shlí aisteach
cuireann tú go réidh i láthair
do cheart urraime, tusa
atá fiarshúileach, crón,
gur taca mo chlainne thú:
braithim i réim
scaoilscéim éigin
a nascann le chéile
mé féin agus tú
tusa óna mbainim craiceann
fad shuíonn
An Taoiseach i gcomhairle.
Necessity For Reverence
O potato that I peel
I am made to know
your raw appeal
insidious, oddly,
not blunt nor coarse
as might one
expect from something so
crudely sprung;
in some peculiar fashion
you quietly present
your claim for reverence,
you, cockeyed, swarth,
supporter of my family;
I feel a vague design
holds me in curious link
with you whose peel
I strip while the Taoiseach
sits in council.
